Iván Candeo (Caracas, 1983)
He currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. Since 2004, he was part of an independent study group made up of artists from different generations. In 2008 he obtained a degree as a Professor, with a specialization in Plastic Arts, at the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador, Instituto Pedagógico de Caracas. He pursued studies in the Master’s program in History and Theory of the Plastic Arts at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and in the diploma program in Contemporary History at the Fundación Rómulo Betancourt. He has also carried out complementary studies in “experimental cinema” at the Aula Xcèntric of the CCCB. In 2018 he received the scholarship to study at the Laboratorio de Prácticas Audiovisuales Contemporáneas (Máster LAV), Madrid. In addition, he participated in the artist residency Lugar a Dudas, directed by the artist Óscar Muñoz, in Cali, Colombia.

Candeo focuses on and confronts the relationship between image, movement, and history, identifying a series of contradictions and paradoxes. He approaches this question from the position of an intermediary who “lets images pass through” different aesthetic apparatuses of vision. He has participated in group exhibitions in various spaces in Latin America, the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Among them are: Unresolved Circumstances: Video Art from Latin America, MOLAA – Museum of Latin American Art, California (2010); When a Painting Moves… Something Must Be Rotten!
